Welcome to New Rock of Ages website!
New Rock of Ages is owned by the Lord Jesus Christ and is operated with love. Reverend Carnell Powell is the founding pastor and was called to the pastorate in February of 1992 when the Lord Jesus told him, "If you love me, feed my sheep". Reverend Powell joined with his family in their home to organize what is now and was then named "The Rock of Ages". He was ordained May 3, 1992 at Central Baptist Church in Inglewood, CA. Rock of Ages had its first worship service on May 10, 1992 at the Quality Inn Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. Since 1992, the Lord has blessed the church tremendously!
Reverend Powell attended Golden Gate Theological Seminary Extension and has attended numerous Pastoral training conferences. Within the New Rock of Ages congregation, he exhibits exemplary Christian service through leadership of our new member orientation class, Wednesday and Saturday bible studies, and monthly discipleship trainings. He also serves as Chairman of the church council. Within the community, he has served as the Athletic Director and currently holds the positions of Family Ministry Director and Executive Council Member for the Crescent Bay-West Los Angeles Association which serves
80 churches. Reverend Powell has 33 years of service with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) where he currently is the District Superintendent for 1 of the 5 major water systems districts of LADWP.
His wife, Ollie, has been a tremendous help-meet for our Pastor and the Lord is using her in a wonderful and powerful way. Ollie has started several ministries within New Rock of Ages including: women's devotional praise team, annual neighborhood outreach, and marriage ministry. She also holds the position of Sunday School Director, leading a staff of 10 Sunday school teachers. She has attended numerous discipleship and Sunday School Conferences and continues to strive for excellence for the Lord Jesus Christ.
Reverend Carnell and Ollie have been married for 35 years, have one son, one
daughter, and four grandchildren. They enjoy working with the Christian family of New Rock of Ages and love connecting people to Jesus Christ, as well as enabling Christians to find new and excellent ways of living out their relationship with God. Their hopes for the church include:
